Long Arm Service

             


City Made Quilts is partnering with Coastside Quilt Studio to provide long arm quilting services. 


Bring in your finished quilt top to City Made Quilts and consult with Sarah regarding thread choices and quilting design. You may bring in your own backing fabric and batting, or choose to purchase in store given City Made Quilt's current inventory. 

   

Process:

  • Services will be provided on a weekly drop basis. Quilts dropped off by 5:00pm on Wednesday will be included in that week's queue. Service completion timeframes depend on waitlist at Coastside Quilt Studio. Rush service is available for a fee and will be available for pick up the following week. 

  • Consultation is provided by Sarah at City Made Quilts. Quilt designs for edge-to-edge quilting and thread choices are available. Special orders for edge-to-edge quilt designs can be ordered as well. 
  • When quilts are ready for pickup, notice will be sent via email or phone (whichever is preferred) and payment for service is due at pickup. 

Long Arm Service Rates:

  • $.035/square inch all over/edge to edge patterns with a minimum charge of $50.

  • Equidistant custom line (straight or curved) quilting is available for $.04/square inch.

  • Matchstick quilting is $.12/square inch. (standard turnaround does not apply)

  • Additional Charges: Thread, $5.00; Dense Quilting or King Size, $10.00

  • New Pantograph: $10.00 

  • 4 weeks or less turnaround time.

  • Rush quilts are accepted for an additional $50 and will be ready by the next Thursday at shop opening.

    • Attach Binding to Front Only: $20.00
    • Complete Binding in Full by Machine: $40.00

Quilt Prep:

Please check: 

  • Make sure your top is square.

  • Press all your seams. I will address the usual wrinkles that result from packing or transporting.

  • Trim dark threads on light colored tops so they do not show through.

  • Stay stitching the edge of your quilt is very helpful to stabilize it and keep any edge seams from unraveling.

  • Square your backing:

    • The backing and batting must be at least 4 inches longer and wider on all 4 sides. (Ex: 60” x 70” quilt top should have a backing of 68” x 78” or more.) It can certainly be larger; unless you indicate otherwise I always return significant scraps back to you.  

  • If quilt backing or quilt top have a top or bottom orientation that is not obvious, please mark it.

NOTES ON BACKING FABRIC:

  • If you are using a Minky / Cuddle backing, it is highly preferred that the selvedges are on the side to avoid any overstretching.

  • If you are using flannel, be sure to pre-wash and dry your fabric prior. Flannel has a high shrinkage rate.
